JOB TITLE:

  • Able Seaman

Reports to:

  • The Ships Master.
  • For general deck department duties, the Deck Rating reports to the Chief Officer or Second Officer.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Be medically fit, competent, and qualified in accordance with international standards to S.T.C.W., or other pertinent regulations, including the Company’s own requirements, to meet the expectations of Deck Rating Vacancies in a professional maritime environment, and be fully conversant with the S.M.S.
  • Assist during loading and unloading of cargo, as well as during mooring and unmooring operations, key responsibilities associated with Deck Rating Vacancies.
  • Perform duties under a platform/rig during cargo operations, including connecting and disconnecting hoses for water, fuel, mud, and brine, aligning with the demands of Shipping Vacancies.
  • Assist during anchor handling and towing operations, contributing to the efficient functioning of the vessel under Deck Rating Vacancies.
  • Stand navigation watch (acting as lookout or helmsman), port watch, and anchor watch as per the agreed watch rotation, fulfilling essential roles in Shipping Vacancies.
  • Monitor communication working frequencies, as well as emergency and distress bulletins, during standby or anchor watches on the bridge, and promptly inform the Master or Chief Officer as necessary, demonstrating the vigilance required.
  • Assists in general housekeeping.
  • Assists in oiling/greasing of running equipment e.g. winches etc.
  • Assists in chipping and painting.Keeps the deck store and boatswains locker in order and in a tidy manner.
  • Performs any other duties or carries out any other responsibilities as directed by the Master or Chief Officer.
  • Executes measures to prevent and/or reduce pollution to the environment.
